Practice Areas

Ms. Amado practices exclusively appellate law, concentrating on family law - marital dissolution issues. Within the area of family law, two areas reflect her distinctive work:

  • Move-Aways and The Hague Convention: As an appellate attorney, Ms. Amado has represented clients in custody disputes involving relocations to or from sister-states or foreign countries. Where the child has been brought to California from his or her country of origin without the approval of the non-relocating parent, the Hague Convention may apply to return the child to his or her home country.

  • Property Division and Marital Fiduciary Duty: Ms. Amado has worked on several cutting-edge issues, including defining fiduciary duties between spouses and resisting recognition of celebrity goodwill as a quantifiable, community asset. A skilled appellate lawyer, she has extensive experience in complex family law appeals.

Additional information on some of Ms. Amado's important cases as well as other information of interest to referring attorneys may be found on this website's Accomplishments page.

In addition to her work in appellate representation, Ms. Amado is also available to work with trial counsel during the trial stage of the representation if an appeal seems likely. Looking at the case with the knowledge of an appellate practitioner, she helps identify which factual issues must be fully developed in the trial court to ensure a complete record for appellate review.
